Leaving a Lasting Legacy: How a Gift in Your Will Could Change Lives

For many people, writing a Will is about protecting the people and causes that matter most to them. It’s a way to ensure your wishes are respected and your values continue long into the future.

Gifts left in Wills help us continue supporting blind and partially sighted people across Liverpool and Knowsley – helping individuals regain confidence, independence and connection after sight loss.

For over 165 years, Bradbury Fields has been part of the local community, providing practical and emotional support to people living with sight loss.

Today, that support includes:

  • Rehabilitation and mobility training
  • Information and advocacy services
  • Low vision support
  • Employment guidance
  • Health and wellbeing activities
  • Assistive technology and transcription services

Why gifts in Wills matter

Many of our core services are provided free of charge thanks to funding and support from donors, fundraisers and our local community. However, demand for sight loss services continues to grow.

There are currently over 40,000 people in Liverpool and Knowsley experiencing sight loss, and this number is expected to rise significantly over the next 20 years.

A gift in your Will helps us continue adapting, growing and reaching more people who need support.

Your legacy could help someone:

  • Learn to travel independently again
  • Access life-changing equipment and support
  • Feel less isolated and more connected
  • Continue living safely at home
  • Rediscover confidence after sight loss

Even a small gift can make a meaningful difference.

The lasting impact of your support

Legacy gifts have already helped shape Bradbury Fields’ future.

One particularly generous legacy enabled the creation of the Iris Conservatory at the Bradbury Centre, a space that continues to benefit service users today.

That is the power of leaving a gift in your Will. It creates a lasting impact that continues helping people long into the future.

Research has shown that for every £1 invested in Bradbury Fields, more than £10 of social value is generated within the community.

Writing or updating your Will

Writing a Will is one of the most important things we can do during our lifetime. It helps ensure your wishes are clear and can reduce stress for loved ones in the future.

To help make this process easier, Bradbury Fields has partnered with the National Free Wills Network.

Through this partnership, supporters can:

  • Write or update a simple Will for free
  • Access a network of qualified local solicitors
  • Receive professional guidance throughout the process

There is absolutely no obligation to leave a gift to Bradbury Fields when using the service. We simply ask that, after taking care of loved ones, you consider supporting our work in the future too.

Types of gifts you can leave

There are several ways to leave a gift in your Will:

  • Residuary gift – a percentage of your estate
  • Pecuniary gift – a fixed amount of money
  • Specific gift – a particular item, such as jewellery or shares

Whatever size the gift, your support could help future generations living with sight loss.

A local charity with community at its heart

Bradbury Fields remains deeply rooted in the local community, supporting people through every stage of sight loss with practical, person-centred services.

Every gift helps ensure that people living with sight loss continue to receive the support they need to live independently and confidently.
